Assembly Speaker Emeritus John A. Pérez Backs Sabrina Cervantes


Eastvale, CA – Assembly Speaker Emeritus John A. Pérez announced his endorsement of Sabrina Cervantes’s campaign for State Assembly today. Pérez served as Speaker during the last Presidential Election Cycle, when Democrat Jose Medina won the neighboring 61st District and Assembly Democrats captured a two-thirds supermajority.

In announcing his support, Perez stated:

“Sabrina Cervantes will make a great Assemblywomen because she will put the needs of people first. She is committed to fighting for policies that will empower middle class families, help small businesses succeed, and expand access to higher education. I know that Sabrina will deliver results for Riverside County in the State Assembly, and I am proud to announce my endorsement of her campaign.”

A former union organizer, Pérez served as the Speaker of the California State Assembly from March 2010 to May 2014. He currently serves as a Member of the University of California Board of Regents.

Sabrina Cervantes is a lifelong Riverside County resident, who serves as the District Director for State Assemblymember Jose Medina. In that role, Sabrina has worked with local stakeholders and community partners to help expand access to higher education, strengthen our regional economy, protect the rights of workers, improve the delivery of government services, and safeguard the natural beauty of our state.

Prior to joining Assemblymember Medina’s office, Sabrina served as a Director for the California Voter Registration Project. Her history of community involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors for the UCR Chicano Latino Alumni Association (CLA), and the non-profit organizations TruEvolution and Women Wonder Writers.

Sabrina holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with a minor in Public Policy from the University of California, Riverside, and she completed an executive education program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She lives in the City of Eastvale.
